Dawnpaw
To her dismay, the sandy hollow was deserted. Even the sand was smooth and blank, showing no signs of recent training. Dawnpaw hovered in the pines that encircled the clearing, somewhat hesitant to disturb the quiet state of the Sandy Hollow. Her mentor, Dapplesong, had probably given up on her. For the past few suns, Dawnpaw had been unable to find her, and so today she boldly planned to train herself. She had left the camp hoping perhaps Sparklingpaw or Owlpaw were here with their mentors, but it seemed as if they must be hunting.
Unable to wait any longer, she stepped daintily onto the cool sand, feeling it shift beneath her small, golden paws. She was fed up with being an apprentice, and more then ready to prove herself as a warrior. The spark and freedom of the apprentice life, quickly lost its appeal. Dawnpaw was now impatient with her lowly status in camp, she has been stuck in this rank for far too long. Finding a good level area, she tried to imagine a snarling fox before her. The image quickly distorted into a nightmare, as she remembered the realization of her close encounter with one. Shaking her head, she conjured up the idea of a rogue.
Crouching, she imagined the figure rushing at her, teeth bared and claws ready to hook into her face. Her gleaming frame slipped to the side, rolling with surprising grace back into a crouch. From there the feline that once looked like a naive kit, jumped into a beautiful arc over the invisible rogue. She landed and swiveled around swiftly, ready to advance. ‘You concentrate on making the moves look much too good, instead of effective, scruff up a bit Dawnpaw.’ Her mentors words floated through her head sternly, and the invisible rogue ebbed in front of her.
“I can’t do this.” Sulkily, she plopped back on her haunches, glaring at life in general.

&&Sparklingpaw
Sparklingpaw, the forever optimist, skipped through ThunderClan territory. ’What shall we do today?’ she asked herself, flicking her ears as she came to a stand still. Glancing around herself, she realized she was near the Sandy Hollow. ’Maybe there’ll be some cats training.’ Sparklingpaw began moving again, trotting with her incredibly bouncy step. Opening her mouth, the ThunderClan apprentice tasted the air, trying to determine if the hollow was occupied. Her eyes brightened as she caught a scent on a scant gust of wind. She narrowed her eyes trying to remember the scent. But before she figure it out, she had reached the clearing.
Sparkingpaw peered through the thick patch of branches that separated her from the Sandy Hollow. Squinting, her eyes lit upon a golden she-cat sitting in the middle of the clearing. She looked as if she was glaring at nothing and Sparkingpaw cocked her head to the side in curiosity. She had, of course, seen her fellow campapprentice around , but she had never actually conversed with her. Quickly, the she-cat looked around for any other cats. No one. That dampened her spirits a bit, but then she shrugged it off. Perhaps the other she-cat would practice fighting techniques with her.
Quietly, she slid through the undergrowth and into the clearing. The other apprentice was faced away from her and with a lopsided smile, Sparklingpaw decided to play a little joke. Careful to remain unknown, Sparkingpaw padded softly on the sand in the hunter’s crouch that Ivywhisker had taught her. When she was close enough, the she-cat pounced, her blue eyes wide with excitement.
ooc ;; hope it's ok that i joined ^^

Sitting there, in her lone misery, Dawnpaw was completely unaware of her surroundings. Going against everything she learned, she allowed herself to become consumed in her thoughts. Silently, she pondered mostly on her old mentor. Of where she went, and why she left her behind without another word. Dawnpaw had thought they were bonding so well, and looked up to Dapplesong as a mother figure. Though just like her mother, Dapplesong was now gone too. Above all this, it seemed as if-
Weight landed on her with no warning, causing her relaxed frame to buckle to the ground. Sand squished into fur as she was flattened by some unseen animal. Instinct told her it was another cat, but she had no time to scent for clans. Using her small frame to her advantage, Dawnpaw twisted violently beneath the cat, and in a split moment had her belly up. A risky move, but the first thing that came to mind. Using all her strength, Dawnpaw kicked her back legs upwards in single, powerful thrust. Hopefully, dislodging the feline from her.
( O O C ) of course it's okay Heatherpool! =D

Sparklingpaw let out a please giggle as she landed squarely on the ginger she-cat. It had worked! The other apprentice had been taken by complete surprise! Perhaps her hunting skills were getting better. Suddenly, she felt the cat beneath her twist around, revealing soft underbelly to Sparklingpaw. "Better get off of her," the apprentice realized. Just as the other apprentice's legs were about to come into contact with Sparklingpaw, the tabby she-cat lept back, her paws skidding in the soft sand. Curiously, Sparklingpaw gazed at the other cat, wondering what her reation would be. Waiting for the other apprentice to get up, Sparklingpaw gave her pelt a breif groom. Her fur had been more unruly that usual after her little joke on her fellow apprentice. Her pelt still looking quite the mess, Sparklingpaw looked towards the other apprentice with her glittering blue eyes. "Hello. I'm Sparklingpaw. I don't beleive I know your name," the apprentice said.

Her legs scrabbled at empty air, the other cat had leaped off her before she could connect her blow. Dawnpaw flipped onto her paws, crouching low and baring her teeth. Her eyes, the colour of moist soil, glared at the young cat, sitting down to groom herself calmly before her. Sparklingpaw! Dawnpaw immediately lost her hostile position, standing up, surprised. ‘Hello. I'm Sparklingpaw. I don't believe I know your name.’ Dawnpaw let out a sigh of relief, and sat down, wrapping her tail over her front paws.
“Sparklingpaw! You had me scared halfway to Starclan!” She grinned, relieved, "I don’t think we ever met officially, I’m Dawnpaw.”
She shook her pelt gently, dislodging the majority of the sand from her silky pelt. She would have to wash for days to get the rest of it out. Out of habit more then anything, she licked a paw and drew it over her ear. Appearance was a big thing for her, vanity a bit of an understatement. As she sat there and idly groomed, she studied the cat before her, this being the first time she really had a chance to judge her.
Sparkling paw’s large ears came as a shock to Dawnpaw, but she assumed perhaps the cat would grow into them. She smirked, not likely. Dawnpaw couldn't help but be a little jealous at how her eyes looked like sparkling drops of rain, and accented her soft tabby pelt. Dawnpaw knew she was self-centered and rather shallow, but made no means to hide it. Most cats usually got over it and ignored her large, criticizing eyes.
“Did Ivywhisker teach you to stalk so silently? I didn‘t hear a sound!” she smiled, her initial appearance test over and passed.

Sparklingpaw gazed back at the other apprentice, trying to read her gaze. At first it was angry, but she soon settled down. The tabby smiled as Dawnpaw sat down. “Sparklingpaw! You had me scared halfway to Starclan! I don’t think we ever met officially, I’m Dawnpaw.” Sparklingpaw grinned back at Dawnpaw, her glittering eyes lighting up. Her tail swished from side to side, stirring up the sand and getting it in her pelt. She didn’t mind though, she could always wash it out.
”Sorry, I guess it wouldn’t have been good if you’d gone to StarClan. ” Sparklingpaw replied. ”No, we haven’t. Nice to meet you.” She smiled. The apprentice watched as Dawnpaw shook the sand from her pelt. It was so soft looking and shiny. Sparklingpaw almost felt self-conscious of herself. Compared to Dawnpaw she must’ve looked a mess. As the other cat’s brown eyes swept over her, Sparklingpaw flicked her ears nervously wondering if she would pass Dawnpaw’s inspection. Her eyes narrowed as she saw the other apprentice smirk at her ears, but didn’t say anything. They might be large, but Sparklingpaw rather liked her ears.
“Did Ivywhisker teach you to stalk so silently? I didn‘t hear a sound!” Apparently she had passed Dawnpaw’s scrutinizing gaze. Sparklingpaw nodded. ”Yup! Have you learned anything from your mentor?” asked Sparklingpaw. She wondered if Dawnpaw’s mentor had taught her any battle moves yet. So far, she hadn’t learned any. Perhaps Dawnpaw would teach her a bit. She hoped so.

”Yup! Have you learned anything from your mentor?” Dawnpaw’s old mentor had begun teaching her some moves, but then she left before anything could really be completed. Disappointment crept through her as she remembered her old, and beloved mentor Dapplesong. She had been beautiful and the most talented mentor she could have asked for, and until recently they had gotten along perfectly. For a reason Dawnpaw could not figure out, she awoke one morning to find her gone, and Ravestar replaced her mentor with Rainwhisker. Dawnpaw had yet to train with the tom-ish she-cat, and was a little wary of the large feline.
“Dapplesong taught me a few moves… but I haven’t had a chance to really do much with Rainwhisker yet.” she smiled weakly, “My training has been a little scattered so far.”
She stood up, giving her pelt one more gentle shake, knowing when she got back to camp she was going to have some serious work to do. By her standards, she was a mess. Sparklingpaw obviously had gotten in much more effective training, but idly, Dawnpaw wondered if she could get revenge on the apprentice. Carefully, she acted as if she was still cleaning her pelt, my cleaning the sand out from her nails and many paw crevices. Without breaking her grooming, Dawnpaw launched herself towards Sparklingpaw. Her haunches dug into the sand and rammed her forward in the blink of an eye. Her paws were outstretched, and her dark eyes were aimed on the other cats chest. In a split second, she hoped to hit the cat with enough force to knock her backwards.

Sparklingpaw watched as Dawnpaw seemed to sadden. She had heard that Dawnpaw’s mentor had disappeared. ”I wonder where she went,” the apprentice thought, flicking her tail. She frowned. The she-cat didn’t like it when people were down. Trying to cheer Dawnpaw up, she said, ”I bet you’ll learn a lot of moves from Rainwhisker too!” Sparklingpaw smiled. She highly anticipated the day when Ivywhisker would teach her how to battle. It seemed like the most exciting part of being an apprentice. Even if Sparklingpaw turned out to be no good at it, the she-cat still wanted to try.
The tabby apprentice watched as Dawnpaw continued to groom. ”Wow. She sure likes keeping her pelt clean.” Sparklingpaw looked down at her own messy pelt. It was tangled and matted in places with patches of sand scattered through out it. She gave herself a shake, for the sand was getting itchy. Turning her gaze back to Dawnpaw, Sparklingpaw’s eyes flew wide open. The apprentice had her paws out towards Sparklingpaw and she was aiming right for her chest. A silly grin flew over Sparklingpaw’s face. ”Ahh, sweet revenge,” she thought. She knew that any cat would want revenge, she just hadn’t thought that Dawnpaw would be the type. Before she could move out of the way, Dawnpaw hit her straight in the chest. Sparklingpaw flew backwards, tumbling head over heels.
”Umph,” she let a muffled sound and she landed on the soft sand. That silly grin was still on her face. Still on the ground, she turned to Dawnpaw. ”Nice one,” she said. The she-cat stood up and stretched, then shook the sand from her pelt.

Dawnpaw was, to say the least, surprised when her paws made contact with the soft pelt of Sparklingpaw. This was her first actual ‘attack’ on another feline, fake or not. Even as a kit she chose not to participate in the games that entailed play fighting. She has never been into it, until now, when it would set her apart from being a warrior or not, and keep her from being able to protect her clan. To her pleasure, she felt Sparklingpaw begin to slip backwards with the impact, and Dawnpaw touched back down to the ground. When she looked up, Sparklingpaw was laying on the ground with a goofy smirk on her face. Pleased, Dawnpaw sat back down, immediately regaining her pretty, nonchalant posture. She refrained from continuing to groom, though she felt as if some sand in her paw could definitely be removed.
“You didn’t truly think I’d let you get away with making me eat sand earlier did you?” She giggled as Sparklingpaw got up and shook the sand from her pelt.
If only Dapplesong could see her now, actually getting her paws dirty. She gently shook her dial, reminding herself to stop thinking of the motherly figure who left her, just like her other one. Dawnpaw hated being a downer, Starclan, why couldn’t she just get over it? She was acting like a foolish kit. She scolded herself mercilessly, hating how juvenile she believed she was being.
“So, what else has Ivywhisker taught you? ... Besides perfect stalking?”
