Often there are many members who would like to get there hands on a high position, whether it be leader, deputy or medicine cat. There fun to play and give you a spot of power, however, in order for an RP to be truly successful and over all a lot more fun, there needs to be a few things said when it comes to having high positions.
I. Activity --
Seriously I don't even think a broken record player could repeat this enough. BE FREAKING ACTIVE PLEASE! I mean people look at this an go, "well duh." But than guess what? They come on for a week, perhaps two if where lucky, and than just seem to fall off the edge of the earth for one reason or another. I'm sorry, but really, how is it that it doesn't come across that you can't just abandon a site after applying for a high position. Its annoying, it's rude...and being completely honest here, I find that it get's on my nerves quite easily. Now, just because I just made a big deal about it...doesn't mean I'm going to snap the neck of the next person who leaves for three days. Of course there are exceptions. For example, vacations, everybody takes them and everybody needs them, whether it be an actual vacation with family and friends, or just to take a little break from everything here at the site. I understand completely. If your going away, simply post in the absent thread and all's well! Not that hard right? You don't even have to tell us where your going, simply take a few seconds to say, "I'm leaving from ___ to ___, bye." Tadaa! And if you really think you are leaving the site for good, that's fine, we won't tie down your legs and force you to say. But for goodness sakes...tell us! A person with a high position should at least be able to come on three times a week. Now I know not everyone has that time and there's a simple solution for that. Do. Not. Apply. Piece of cake. If you think you won't be able to achieve that...just don't do it!
II. Having more than one --
Since it's hard to come up with a good amount of active members, one member is allowed to have two high positions. Wait let me rephrase that...one ACTIVE member. But I already ranted about that in the paragraph above, so I won't get into it. Anyway, there are limits to this. You can't have two high positions in the same clan, or two of the same. Examples, having a Thunderclan medicine cat and leader, or having say the Windclan deputy and the Shadowclan deputy. I don't think that's hard to understand, so I won't talk about it. ("But Flamey, you have the leader of Riverclan and Obscurity, isn't that against the rules you stupid hypocrite?") Technically yes. However since I at the time Icestar became leader Obscurity didn't exist and Minx was just a simple loner, I wasn't exactly planning it. Seeing as Minx's life just turned out that way and we needed a good plot, that's what happened. Obscurity's my baby. I created it and Minx long before it got to this site in my strange little brain..so leave me alone.
III. Variety --
Just like with regular bios, a bio trying out for a high position can't be a mary-sue/gary-sue. I know that a lot of the cat's here have dramatic history's, but don't go overboard please...and your characters not perfect no matter what. No happy go lucky cat's who are so amazing they can heal everyone yet fight at the same time and beat almost any enemy all the while being insanely beautiful and having witnessed there whole family torn apart by rabid dogs right before there very eyes. See? Pretty unbelievable. Make them original, be creative. Most likely a high position bio will be looked at more than the typical warrior. Have variety. And also, when choosing a gender for your cat, keep in mind if that particular gender is way over populated in a certain clan, or perhaps if there are too many female deputy's, make a male. It's helpful and makes things more realistic.
IV. The three week rule --
To weed out the inactive accounts and keep the high positions open to more active players, I use a three week rule. This is a pretty simple rule, if you have a high position (medicine cat apprentices count too) and you have not logged into your account for at least three weeks, I will remove your character from that particular position. Unless you've already told us your leaving or have a good excuse (saying you've been busy really isn't a good excuse...if you've got a busy life...why did you sign up for a high position?) then I'll have no exceptions. However, your account and other characters are perfectly safe until the next activity check. If you return and the spots still open, I'll give you another chance at it. But if you come back to find it's been filled by someone else...well sorry, your not getting it back.
more may come later on...
